1. It’s a one-woman show!

Crazy but true, but all the parts in The Nursery Nurse are played by its creator, Charlotte Henderson! She’s good at accents and costuming so it’s sometimes hard to tell, but it really is all her!

2. Charlotte Henderson really did work as a nursery nurse

Ever wondered where the idea for the series came from? It’s from Charlotte’s real experience working as a nursery nurse! The job is also called an early years practitioner, and it’s seriously hard work. Charlotte started the series because she wanted to educate people about how difficult (and sometimes ridiculous!) the job could be, but she wanted to use humour to do so.

3. It started during COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic meant people were spending a lot of time at home and even more time online than usual. This actually helped quite a lot of content creators, because they had more time to make videos and people had more time to look for new creators to follow. The Nursery Nurse started in July 2021, and Charlotte’s been a full-time content creator ever since!

4. It has a LOT of views!

The Nursery Nurse has over 1,300 episodes so it’s no surprise it’s racked up a LOT of views! The series has almost 5 million followers on TikTok and over 500 million likes! Those are serious numbers, and that’s just TikTok – Charlotte also posts on YouTube, Instagram and Facebook!

5. Charlotte learned her Irish accent from her mother

If you’ve ever thought that Sorscha’s accent is pretty realistic, there’s a reason for that! Charlotte’s mother is from Ireland, and Charlotte imitates her accent to play the character. Charlotte was born in England, but says that she talked in an Irish accent when she was little, but stopped when she started going to school. She’s also said that Sorscha is her comfort character!

6. Charlotte Henderson isn’t the same person as Charlotte

Representations of fictional Charlotte and real Charlotte, against a colourful background

Charlotte started the series by basing it on herself and her own experiences. Her character is also called Charlotte and has a lot in common with her – they’re both married with two daughters, for one thing! But as the series went on and more characters joined the cast, the Charlotte in The Nursery Nurse became a totally different person from Charlotte in real life.

7. Charlotte comes up with ideas in the shower

Strange but true – Charlotte Henderson says she comes up with her story ideas in the shower, and sometimes takes a shower if she’s trying to come up with more ideas! Hey, whatever helps the creative process – where do you get YOUR best ideas?

8. There are a lot of characters…

The series started with only a handful of characters, but the universe has expanded MASSIVELY since 2021! There are at least 50 characters who have appeared in person so far, and that’s not including the characters who are named but not scene, like the nursery kids! Charlotte of course plays every character, so it’s a LOT of hard work for her!

9. …and a LOT of lore

If you’re only just getting into The Nursery Nurse, be warned – there’s a LOT to catch up on! The show started out as simple one-off skits, but as the fandom grew Charlotte started adding characters permanently and giving their relationships more focus. There’s now a lot to learn about all the characters! Luckily, you can find summaries written by fans online.

10. There was a live event!

The simple skits also moved onto some enormous new story arcs – a pretty far cry from the show’s origins! One of these was The Halloween Ball, which was a series set at the Knight Family Annual Halloween Ball and posted in October 2024. It was a huge event with custom posters, merch, and even a theme song! To celebrate it Charlotte hosted a live Halloween ball in London, where a major plot point for the series was unveiled to the audience (no spoilers here)!

11. Users sent in their stories!

The Nursery Nurse is usually made up of short one-off skits, and there’s a lot of audience participation in these! Charlotte takes submissions from fans for skit ideas. Fans love to discuss the series and come up with their own headcanons, which Charlotte sometimes confirms or takes inspiration from (more on that in a minute)!

12. Charlotte got a role on CBBC!

Charlotte’s not just a TikTok star – she’s also a professional actress! She played a librarian in the CBBC series High Hoops, which is about a school basketball team.

13. It has a theme song

The Nursery Nurse series got its own theme tune in 2024 with a song called NURSERYVERSE. All the proceeds for the song went to charity, but the song had a mixed response – some fans loved it and some didn’t. What do you think?

14. Fans wanted the relationships!

There is a HUGE fan culture around The Nursery Nurse – in fact, it’s probably bigger than you’d think! Fans gather on TikTok and other platforms to discuss the episodes and speculate over what’s coming next. A big part of most fan cultures is shipping (which is when you support a relationship between two characters), and some of the show’s confirmed relationships came after massive fan speculation! Mialotte (Mia/Charlotte) is the biggest ship, and Marjoreece (Marjorie/Reece) is also very popular. Charlotte even joined in the fan fun by making playlists for these ships!

15. People have reached out to Charlotte for advice

Charlotte Henderson started the series to shed light on the daycare industry, and it’s still making an impact to this day! Despite now being a full-time content creator, Charlotte says she still gets messages from fans asking for advice on how to get into a childcare career! Do you feel inspired by The Nursery Nurse?
