1. There are six members

KATSEYE consists of six members – Sophia, Lara, Daniela, Manon, Megan and Yoonchae! Just like most KPop groups, the girls have their own roles – read on to find out more!
2. They’re international

So, technically KATSEYE aren’t really a KPop group – they’re an international girl group! They’re based in Los Angeles and three members (Daniela, Lara and Megan) are American, but they’re also signed up to the huge South Korean music label Hybe! The other three members are from all over the world – Manon is Swiss, Sophia is Filipino-America, and Yoonchae is South Korean! They are based on the KPop model of training and producing
3. Sophia is the leader

EveryKPop group has a leader, and Sophia Elizabeth Guevara Laforteza is in charge of KATSEYE! Sophia was born in New York City and her family are from the Philippines. Her favourite colour is purple, and her official dream charm and emoji is the anchor! The anchor symbolises stability, and the fact that she’s supportive to everyone around her! This doesn’t just mean she’s a shoulder to cry on though – Sophia is also the chef of the group!
4. The name comes from a gemstone

The name KATSEYE is a reference to the gemstone chrysoberyl. It’s nicknamed “cat’s eye” due to the fact that it appears to shine and reflect different colours, depending on the angle and lighting you examine it in. Sophia explained that this represents the different personalities, talents and backgrounds of the members of KATSEYE. They were originally going to call the group CATSEYE, but Lara suggested spelling it with a K to make it look cooler!
5. Lara is the main singer

The lead vocals for KATSEYE’s hits are performed by Lara Rajagopalan! Lara hails from Los Angeles and was born to an Indian mother and a Sri Lankan father. Talent runs in the family – her older sister is also a singer, performing under the name Rhea Raj! Her representative colour is green, and her emoji is a key. This symbolises infinite possibilities and the ability to open new doors. A fun fact about Lara is that she appeared in the video for Michelle Obama’s Global Girls Alliance campaign!
6. They were formed through the reality show The Debut: Dream Academy

Some great bands have formed on reality TV shows (One Direction, anyone?), and that’s how KATSEYE got their start! They were formed in 2023 on the TV show Dream Academy, which was a collaboration between Hybe and a major American record company, Geffen Records. They didn’t make their debut until the following year though, launching their debut single “Debut” in 2024. It was quickly followed by their first big hit, “Touch” – and the rest is history!
7. Daniela is the main dancer

Daniela Andrea Avanzini Llorente is originally from Atlanta in the USA, and her ancestry is Cuban and Venezuelan! She is the main dancer of the group, and she has appeared on American reality TV series So You Think You Can Dance (she placed 10th in season 13!) and America’s Got Talent. She can do several different kinds of dance, but her specialty is ballroom! Her official colour is sky blue and her emoji is a shield, symbolising courage, loyalty and strength!
8. Their official fandom name is Eyekons

All KPop fans need a nickname from their favourite group – and if you love KATSEYE, you are officially an EYEKON! It’s a play on the word “eye” and the word “icon.” The name was chosen by fans from a poll on the South Korean fansite Weverse.
9. Megan is the all-rounder

An all-rounder is the member of a KPop group who is a bit of a jack-of-all-trades – singing, rapping, dancing, the works! Megan Meiyok Skiendiel steps into the role for KATSEYE, though she is especially talented at dancing, having studied many types of dance. Megan is from Hawai’i, and she’s ethnically Swedish-Chinese. Her group colour is peach and her emoji is the double cherry, which symbolises her confident onstage persona and her shy but goofy offstage self! Megan is also a fashion model and she’s a former JPop trainee. She loves maths, but sometimes struggles with English due to dyslexia.
10. They have some cool influences

KATSEYE have named some seriously cool sources of inspiration for their music and performance style! The group have named girl groups The Pussycat Dolls, The Spice Girls and Le Sserafim as huge influences on the band’s sound and style. Their creative director Humberto Leon has also named actresses and models Devon Aoki and Milla Jovovich, and singer Shakira as an inspiration for their image.
11. Manon is the visual

Meret Manon Sarpong Bannerman is the visual of KATSEYE, which means she’s the official face of the group! Manon is Swiss-Italian-Ghanaian and she speaks a lot of languages – English, Swiss-German, German, a little French, and a little Spanish! Her colour is yellow and her symbol is the celestial tiara, which represents hope, beauty and elegance. She started writing songs when she was just five years old, and says that her role model is Beyonce!
12. They’ve had a lot of sponsorship deals

KPop groups are always huge trendsetters, so it’s no wonder that brands are so keen to work with them! KATSEYE haven’t been on the scene long but they’ve already worked with Urban Outfitters and Fendi, and they’ve released themed soaps with Lush and lip gloss with Glossier. They also teamed up with jewellery brand Pandora to produce charms based on their Dream Charms!
13. Yoonchae is the maknae

The maknae of a KPop group is the youngest member, and Jeung Yoon-Chae (born in 2007) is the baby of KATSEYE! Yoonchae is the only Korean member of the group, and she started her career young, becoming a trainee in 2020! Yoonchae’s colour is pink and her emoji is a shell, symbolising comfort and tranquility. If Yoonchae could have any superpower, she’d choose telekinesis!
14. They did an awesome group cosplay!

KATSEYE made headlines at Halloween in 2024, when they cosplayed as the Winx Club! This group costume won the hearts of Gen Z and Milennial fans, and they were named one of the best celebrity costumes of the year by Teen Vogue!
15. KATSEYE’s music is all about self confidence!

The msot important thing about music is how it makes you feel, and KATSEYE want to make their fans feel strong, confident and empowered! Their first EP is called Soft is Strong, and it’s all about how kindness and friendship are what make you a strong person!
